Sunday is the intern's day to shine

It's Sunday, which means I'm the only photographer working at the New Mexican today. It figures that a little spot news would happen, which is fine with me.

Freezing temperatures caused a firemain to break in front of De Vargas Middle School Sunday Night. City of Santa Fe Transmition Distribution Manager Shannon Jones, right, arrives on the scene as Angelo Borrego and Chris Chavez dig to find the firemain's shut-off valve to stop the gushing water. The firemain break will not effect the school's regular schedule.

Lighting a Highschool Gym...

... I have never had to do that before now, even thought I've known how for a while...

I used pocket wizards, 2 jackrabbit pack II's and 2 UNI 400 Jr's set to 1/4 power.... oh... and super-clamps... can't forget the super-clamps.

the only photoshopping I did was cropping..

It still doesn't beat the lighting in the Pan Am back in Las Cruces...

Finally catching a break...

I'm moving to Santa Fe in January. Why? I will be interning at The Santa Fe New Mexican. It took 6 months of harassing the newspaper's photo editor... and now I'm leaving Las Cruces and it's sunshine a little over a month, but don't worry... I will be back.

...Now look at this:

Volleyball is over...

I shot the whole WAC Volleyball Tournament before the break. I have some exciting news also, but I will wait a little longer before I make my official statement... So look at this until then.

I have someone special that I would like you to meet..

Introducing Jennifer, my sister. Isn't she pretty? I followed her around for a few days taking photos of the things she does. Why? Because hopefully I will be leaving soon, and I'm trying to spend some time with someone who is particularly important to me. And I took pictures.

Here's a photo that really tells a lot about her. She's been dancing since the day she was born it seems. She's practiced many forms of dance. There is a suitcase in her room that is filled with point shoes, taps shoes, flamenco shoes, jazz shoes, and ballroom shoes. If I had as many Jimmy Choo shoes as she does dance shoes then I would be in heaven but in some serious credit card debt.
My sister also his a huge Audrey Hepburn fan, and here's a quick fact, Audrey Hepburn was quite the dancer too.

Here's another thing that Jen does. She's an art student. Here she is taking a break from her painting (that's it behind her). The apron she's wearing was from when she worked at a coffee house the last few years of high school. I guess she uses it as a painting smock now...
She's giggling and telling me about the time when the guy in the workstation next to her accidentally took a swig of paint thinner. Apparently, he put his drink a little too close to the container that he used to hold his mineral spirits. Don't worry, he's okay... but my sister's humor might be questionable. Mine might be too because the story gave me quite a laugh as well.

I still have more time to spend with my sister... that might give me a few more photos to put up.

SSA Bootcamp

Here's a shot from the game. It was a great workshop. I'm going to try to go back in March.
